And finally, today we have a very classic Richie story from Jackpots #23. The Rich family lose all their money and must start over from scratch. But, they approach the situation with love, humor, and a pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps attitude that is very inspiring! Enjoy!

Now, obviously there are many leaps in logic here (who would throw out cable worth that much?) and we could spend all day pointing them out, but I must ask; they couldn’t go to the Van Doughs? Or Aunt Novoo Rich? They wouldn’t be imposing because there are thousands of rooms in those mansions. No, they couldn’t, the story wouldn’t have worked, stop looking for logic, it’s a comic, you’re right, I agree. 🙂

And I could point out that enough time has elapsed for Rich and Sons to have a factory, yet Regina is still wearing the same dress. But, I like to think it is a custom, handmade, silk dress and she can’t afford another one of those yet, so better to wear it non-stop than a ratty dress from the five and dime.

I love how Richard knows Bean Belly from the War! WWI we assume? Do you remember them ever mentioning Richard’s wartime service before? I don’t!

And my lovely Cadbury stays with them to the end, sleeping on a chair instead of going back to his apartment. Although, he does live in the servant’s quarters in most Richie stories, but sometimes they show his secret life outside of the mansion. It’s sweet how the men sleep in chairs while giving Richie and Regina the crates and grotty sheets to sleep on. Nothing looks very comfortable, but it’s the thought that counts.

What a great family, they get out there, pound the pavement, start a new company, even Regina doesn’t act like a ditz and knocks a bunch of bad guys out. I am so impressed with the Riches in this story! And Richard is even kind to that jerk Uriah Mound; I guess they had already used Uriah Heap in the below story and didn’t want to use it twice:  www.richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/tag/uriah-heap/

I don’t see the appeal of taking all of Richard Rich’s assets. There are just too much. Vaults are exploding everywhere, the money is pouring in too fast to ever spend. I would have just taken over an extra mansion/playhouse and a few vaults on the sly and no one would ever notice. Did you remember this story?

And just a reminder, if there is a certain story or type of story that you would like to see on here, comment below or email me at gloriagladrich2@yahoo.com.

And now, for the quiz results:

How did you do? Did you know number 9? I had no idea! And I am suspect of 18. Shouldn’t the answer be Richville? I missed 9, 14, 15, 18, 19, & 20. But, I mostly read digests so the names of actual Richie comics are not something I know well. Hope you had fun, thank you for being a fan club member and Happy Anniversary!

Congratulations on this important milestone! Hard to believe it’s been a year already! Here’s to many more!

    • Thank you!! It’s been very fun so far!

Forgot to mention that “The Riches Go Broke” is one of my favorite Richie stories ever, despite the leaps in logic. It shows the Riches to be people of good character. And I agree with you on #18 on the quiz, I believe there is a map that shows it in Richville not “many towns”! I am rather embarrassed as to how many I got wrong though…

    Hello–congratulation$ on one year!!!

I’m not sure if it’s just my browser or what, but I’m finding the links to the larger pages to not pull up the first page of the first two tales (the page displayed looks like page 2 despite the numbering).

Anyway, thank you for a great site and the regular updates–they are great!!

  3. Travis says:

Looks great!! And what a great story, too! Stories like this show that the Riches are worth their weight in gold, and then some!

I remember reading the first part of this story in 1977 while waiting for my parents at a furniture store which had a few old RIchies laying around. I never got to finish it until today!! Thanks for posting this!

Did ya notice that Mr. Mound looks like a slimmed-down version of Dick Cheney? What an awful man! About your question concerning Mr. Rich’s wartime service. Well, if we set the date on a sliding scale, it is possible that he was a Korean War vet. Perhaps, based on a “current” date of 1976, he was born in 1932 or 1933, making him in his early 40’s in 1976. Sounds about right for him to have a 10 year old son and a financial empire.

Now back to Cheney/Mound. The Riches are FAR too forgiving. Sure, Cheney/Mound might have been a great accountant, but he had committed multiple FELONIES while seizing control of Rich’s assets. Fraud, extortion, kidnapping, piracy, attempted murder…. he’s subject to the U.S. legal system, regardless of how forgiving his victims are. I’d say Cheney/Mound would easily get 25-to-life.

Still, this is a fun “what if” type of story. What if the Riches lost their fortune, whether it be through a crooked accountant, or a Wall Street crash, etc. We get to see how they can pull themselves up by the bootstraps and rebuild from scratch, all in good humor with a positive attitude. Because of their past kindness to everyone around them, people are happy to help them when they’re down.

Great lecture from Mr. Rich, “Wealth and power mean nothing without integrity and honesty”. You go, sir!

  6. Michael says:

Regarding the quiz and the question of which town the Rich Estate is located in, I think it is primarily in Richville, but Little Dot and Little Lotta live in the town of Bonnie Dell and Richie sometimes interacts with them, so I assume there must be an entrance to the estate there as well.

    • Travis says:

I love that you knew that! Yes, I totally support the idea of the estate being across multiple towns, which is hilarious but exactly like all the over-the-top details of being Richie Rich!

      • Michael says:

I remember specifically reading that in a Richie’s Mailbag, when someone asked him which state and city his estate was in, and Richie replied that it was so big it was in multiple states and bordered multiple towns!

  7. Fubukifangirl says:

Where in the world is Dollar? Does he only appear in the cartoon?

    • He is in a lot of stories, but doesn’t have the same bumbling doofus persona that he does in the cartoons. I wasn’t very into Dollar stories so I guess I never posted any! One of these days I’ll hopefully get back to posting so I’ll throw in some Dollar for you. 😁

  8. Travis says:

I love Dollar, both from the comics and the cartoon. But yes, I agree, his personality is different between the two, as well as how he looks.

    • He drove me crazy in the cartoon! Always knocking something over and acting like a schmuck. 🤣 I do have some fave Dollar comic stories though, I love the one where he gets braces or when he’s a detective. Looks like I have some reading to do!

  9. Anonymous says:

That crook must have used bribery, document forgery, and other sneaky behaviors to get the Rich family’s fortune and business empire for himself. What a creep.
