Richie and Reggie go back in time to join the Adventurer’s Club

Some exciting things are happening in Richieland, the first new version of Harvey Hits is due out from Joe Books next week! Ask your local comic book store to order a copy for you!

Also, we received reports there is a Richie Rich themed cocktail lounge that opened in Dallas, TX this week. I’m excited to hear from anyone who goes if it has anything Richie related other than the logo.

There’s nothing very exciting on the website, but there are few more pics of faceless Richie to check out:

And now to our story du jour…Stupid Reggie wants to join the Adventurer’s club and puts Richie in peril! Thank goodness for Cadbury, enjoy!

Oh Mr. Codger! You doofus! I love how Mr. Codger is a.) named Mr. Codger and b.) just handily walks around the estate at the exact right moments.

What a snob Richie is in the beginning. “I invented a time machine.” “Yeah, that’s great and all, but I’m working on my speed of light plane, so it’s kind of a bigger deal than yours…”

Thank goodness for Cadbury, he never panics, just jumps back in time, somehow with a stretch limo and saves the day. And if they hadn’t gotten back to the time machine, I’m sure he could have easily made fire and constructed a mansion and kept Richie in the lap of luxury for most of his caveboy existence.

And now, a cute one-pager!

2017-04-26 10.40.13.jpgHee hee! Have a great day!

Richie, Freckles & Peewee explore the mansion and Richie earns billions in his sleep

Today is another very exciting day in Richieland, I discovered another blog posting Richie stories! Hurrah! And, for those of you Jackie Jokers fans, there are quite a few Jackie stories which makes me happy for you as I completely forget to post about Jackie.

http://funnybookfunnies.blogspot.com/search?q=richie+rich

In other genres I forget about, the last blog with the Manta Adventure Story from Ze Mastor made a lot of you very giddy so I will look for more adventure stories to post. In great news, another guest blog from Ze Mastor is coming soon!

And, there is still another amazing thing! I found a Richie explores the house story I’ve never read! Oh happy day! And a one-pager! Enjoy!

2017-03-21 12.28.30.jpgOh Cadbury, you are the best!

What a house! They have barely scratched the surface! I do think with all the 100s of servants working there, one could stagger their off days. But, what do I know of running a mansion? And if you wanted to know more about PeeWee not speaking, click below:

This one-pager below makes me smile, I love when adults don’t realize who they’re talking to and Richie gets some disrespect. Although, it clearly states the mines belong to Richie so these guys need to read!

2017-03-21 12.36.14.jpgAnd now to a story with my beloved Cadbury, who takes the best care of wittle, sleepy Richie.

2017-03-21 12.40.422017-03-21 12.40.452017-03-21 12.40.482017-03-21 12.40.512017-03-21 12.40.55

Phew! That would have been terrible for a normal person that would be bankrupt after blowing half a million. But, Richie made a profit while asleep, those are some excellent genetics!

Have a great day!

Richie helps Mr. Glad and Reggie helps himself to some thorns

We’re going back in the Wayback Machine to some early Richie from the Richie Rich Relics comics. I love how cute they are drawn in the early days and I’m so grateful for these newer versions because my early Richies are brown and crumbling.

This first story is yet another one where in today’s world Richie would be considered a Gloria stalker, but back then we just thought it was cute. Although I can’t imagine Harveyville is very far from Richdale, surely it’s just a yacht length away!

(*If you don’t get that hilarious reference, you will further down the page!)

img_2407img_2408img_2409img_2410img_2411

Oh the olden days, when we didn’t know what hot dogs were made of!

And if you like tales of Richie trying to control Gloria’s life, you will like the second story here:

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2016/02/14/happy-valentines-from-richie-and-gloria/

And now for the yacht reference, I can’t find my color version of this so I apologize for the black and white.

FullSizeRender.jpg

Waahaa! Now you get the hilarity!

And now to a one-pager, I love when Richie is dressed in his “poor” clothes. All those destitute kids wandering around in the 50’s with striped shirts instead of tuxedos, it was easy to spot the lower class indeed.IMG_2412.jpg

Did you see their names in the window? Hee hee! Richie should have brought his denim and rhinestone checkbook case to go with his attire.

And if you like stories of Richie in non-fancy clothes, see here:

https://wordpress.com/post/richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/1026

And now to something I really enjoy, when Richie gets to stick it to Reggie. IMG_2413.jpg

And there’s more where that came from, here’s a great story where we can sneer away at dumb ‘ol Reggie. As Freckles would say, “WHEEEEE!”

img_2401img_2402img_2404img_2405img_2406

Reggie made an incredibly well planned fake treasure map. He missed his calling as a cartographer. I like when Richie doesn’t try to be nice and include Reggie despite his jerkness. He just says “So long sucker!”

If you like stories of Reggie getting trounced, see here:

And if that’s not enough, just search Reggie in the search box by the magnifying glass at the top of this page for more stories. Have a great weekend!

Our 3 year anniversary, the Richie Rich app, and Richie & Reggie take a trip around the world!

THREE YEARS!! WOOT WOOT!

Richie3years.jpg

And, on this momentous occasion, let’s take a little trip back in time to the magical year, 2012, when Ape/Kidzoic reprinted Richies and Richie Rich made his short-lived grand comeback.

I fell back in love with Richie Rich in early 2012 while visiting my parents’ house and discovering my old comic stash in the closet. I had no idea that 2012 was a Richie Rich zeitgeist that hadn’t existed in 20 years and that would end quickly due to Ape’s financial problems.

I started my love fest by heading to the comic book store where they directed me to the new Ape/Kidzoic GEMS and the giant Richie Rich Dark Horse collection (only $20 back then). Did I appreciate how lucky I was to walk in and buy Richie Rich comics? No! I had no idea they hadn’t been in production since the early 90’s! Try to find Richie in a comic book store today and they look at you like you have three heads.

But, I still wanted a portable version of Richie because as a child, I always brought Richie Rich comics to read in the doctor’s waiting room. Even today, as I walk into any appointment, I start craving a RR comic.

This is what led me to think, “Hey, it’s 2012, surely every single Richie Rich comic has been scanned into the internet and I can read them all on an app on my phone!” I went to the app store and sure enough, there was a Richie Rich app! Again, I had no idea how lucky I was to download it then nor that the app would be defunct by the end of 2013.

The app featured the new 2012 version of Richie and Dollar and looked like this:

mzl.yyuqwznv (1).png

Once you clicked on the app, it showed all the Richie comics you had downloaded. I downloaded 12 of them, there were 4 others, but one was Crashman & Rippy which I hated, and the other three I believe were the new 2012 Richie. Each issue was 29 pages long, plus the cover and had NO ADS and no Lotta or Dot. Just Richie. The negative was that only the first story (a five pager) was in color, the others were all in black and white.

The app does still work on my very ancient ipad, I can’t download anything new as the app isn’t supported, but I can read what I already downloaded when it doesn’t crash. This is what it looks like:

IMG_2376.jpg

For more information on the greatness that was the Richie Rich app, click below:

http://www.animationmagazine.net/vfx/richie-rich-comics-go-digital/

The reason for my trip down memory lane is that I found today’s story on the app, but I didn’t feel posting a black and white story would be very exciting. Then, a few weeks ago, I pulled out a 2012 Gems and there it was in color! So, enjoy this awesome story of Richie and Reggie traveling across the world in beautiful digitized Technicolor! And stay tuned for a 3rd anniversary present at the end..

img_2353img_2354img_2355img_2356img_2357img_2358img_2359img_2360img_2361img_2362img_2363img_2364img_2365img_2366img_2367

Richie’s in a baby carriage with a parachute!! And the rules seem odd, you can’t be on a train, yet you can be pulled by a train. I love Reggie’s French! And I’m curious to know what the farmer will do with motorized skates. How will that help on a farm? Perhaps he is building a roller disco next to the farm.

And now to your present! You may not have noticed, but adult coloring books have become all the rage in the past year. It is a great stress reducer. So, I am adding some black and white pages of this story from the app which you can print out and whenever you’re feeling stressed, just color a panel in! It’s like a free massage!

http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/06/health/adult-coloring-books-popularity-mental-health/

And if there is a page you really want to color that I didn’t post, just let me know. I’d love to see your finished work if you do color a page in. Have a great day, happy anniversary, and thanks for being a fan club member!

Cadbury remains cool under pressure, almost…

If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you know that I had (ok, perhaps still have) a HUGE crush on Cadbury growing up and did not care that he was a cartoon character. In my mind, he was my boyfriend/future husband. Which is why the below one-pager has special significance to me as it was the day Cadbury broke my little seven year old heart. 12705364_10153445966050835_615108438691718070_n.jpg

That shirt! Those shoes! That blonde floozy instead of me!! Such a sad day. Thank you to Larry T. for reminding me of this tear-jerking story. 🙂

And now back to Cadbury doing his usual amazing job of remaining calm under pressure. Or perhaps not?

2015-11-15 10.42.10.jpg

Go Cadbury! Shuddup, ya punk kids!

And now to our first story where poor Cadbury is stuck with stupid old Reggie for the day. Will he lose his cool? Read on..

SNEER! How’d you like that Reggie??? I love when Reggie gets his just desserts!

And now Cadbury has to teach old-timey Regina how to drive, what a deucedly frightening task.

Richie Rich and his gold iphone and interview with Weldon Adams

Many of you were interested in seeing the story of Richie and Reggie and their iphones from the 2012 Richie reboot, so I present it below with some other old and re-colored stories from the Winter Special Gems. But, I also wanted to know more about how the reboot came to be and how Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colón became a part of it. Luckily, I know Weldon Adams who was the editor of the new Gems and he gave me a lovely interview you can read to answer your burning questions after the story!

IMG_1802IMG_1803IMG_1800IMG_1804IMG_1805IMG_1806IMG_1807IMG_1801

IMG_1808IMG_1809IMG_1810IMG_1811IMG_1812

INTERVIEW WITH WELDON ADAMS

How did you get involved in the Richie reboot?

I was an old friend of one of the Ape Entertainment publishers, Brent Erwin. The Richie Rich reboot was essentially all his idea. He designed all the new looks and the new direction for the series. There was a different editor on the “All-New, All-Different” Richie Rich book.
I was brought in to edit several other titles, which included the then-unnamed companion Richie Rich reprint title. I suggested picking up the numbering of one of the old titles. I also suggested we get one as near a landmark issue # as we could, so we could celebrate it. We decided Richie Rich Gems was perfect. We picked up the numbering at #44, making issue #50 just a few away. And ‘Gems’ was a good title for a -mostly- reprint book.
Here’s the part I loved the MOST… It wasn’t -all- reprints. Each issue had an all-new ‘classic-style’ Richie story in it created by Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colón! Being able to hire those guys to create all new Richie stories was just the greatest! And they were as excited to be working on Richie stories again as I was to be working with them! I am very, very proud of those stories. It’s like they never left the title.
The publishers, Brent Erwin and David Hedgecock, had worked out an idea to theme my issues to match what was supposed to be happening in the ‘new-style’ Richie book that same month. So I had to lead with a super-hero theme in my first issue. That, of course, meant Super Richie… aka Rippy & Crashman!
Where did you find the artwork and stories to digitize? Is there still a giant Harvey warehouse somewhere?
As for where I was pulling these reprints from, Ape Entertainment had a deal with the license holder that gave us access to their library of vintage stats of the original art for thousands of stories. To pare it down a bit, we had them send us the stats for every issue of Super Richie and Richie Rich Success Stories that they had. As Harvey Comics reprinted the stories so much, that actually gave us access to stories that originally ran in many, many other titles.
The stats were not always the sharpest quality, being created decades ago with what is now very outdated technology. So we had them scanned to digital files and then had someone professionally clean up the line art in PhotoShop. This allowed us to represent the art more like it was intended to look, instead of looking like a bad photocopy of a bad photocopy.
The wealth of issues we had to pull from allowed me the freedom to pick stuff that fit the themes I needed.  Namely, super-heroes, haunted castles, pirates, and robots & aliens.
What was it like working with Sid and Ernie?
Sid Jacobson had already been asked to produce a new Super Richie story, which Ernie Colón would draw. This turned out to be Rippy & Crashman in their original costumes, which was a nice bit of fun. Then I began working with Sid on story ideas to fit the next issues.
I hired a very talented artist, James Nelms, to digitally recolor some covers, and I reworked the text on them to reflect the new content. Most of the rest of the new color work was done by Dustin Evans.
So I was simultaneously culling old issues to mine for stories to reprint, getting them cleaned up, getting them colored, getting old covers recolored, working with Sid on new scripts, and working with Ernie on getting the art finished on the new story.
Mostly, things went very smoothly with everyone. I would offer a tweak, such as asking that we call Richie’s phone his MyPhone, and his tablet his MyPad. And asking that they be gold or silver. Richie always had great technology available to him, so it was important to me that we continue that.
There were only two snags we ran into… The all-new book fell terribly behind. So the whole matching-theme thing went out the window on the first issue. And I had to ask for some significant art revisions on the alien-theme new story in issue #47. I was nervous about asking a man, whose work I grew up reading (both his Harvey and later DC comics), to redraw portions of the story. But Mr. Colón is a true professional and a gracious man. He did so quickly and efficiently. We were able to move panels around so he really only had to redraw a few panels in all. And that is probably the story I am the most proud of now.
Were the new comics successful?
We got up to issue #48 before low sales made it impossible to continue. I really wanted to hit issue #50… That was my original plan, remember. I had the cover from Richie Rich Diamonds #50 picked out to refurbish as our new Gems #50 cover.
We did get to do a couple of specials… A Winter Special (snow themed stories), and a Valentine’s Day Special.  Both were tons of fun to produce. Working with Sid Jacobson (writer), Ernie Colón (artist), James Nelms (cover colorist), Dustin Evans (digital colorist), and Deron Bennet (letterer) was just great!
My time with Ape Entertainment was very rewarding. Working with comic book legends on Richie Rich, and editing other great titles like Strawberry Shortcake, DreamWorks Adventure Magazine, Pocket God, and Temple Run, was very special. I had fun, learned a lot, and I think we turned out some great comics.
Thank you Weldon!

Richie & Reggie go on a nightmare cruise and another rich, childless Uncle tries to unload his wealth

Today we begin with a bit of weird, modern Richie fun. Chris commented on the last post how weird it would be to see Richie with a cellphone and viola! I present, Richie, with a gold iphone!

10505339_10152340574462271_1600552171427328713_n.jpg

New issues of Gems were published by Ape/Kidzoic in 2012 that contained old, re-colored stories, new stories drawn in the new way (not my cup of tea) and NEW stories drawn by Ernie Colón and written by Sid Jacobson. This is from one of the new stories in Gems Winter Special. I can post the story if you’d like to see it, just let me know in the comments below.

And now to a story I love that was in one of my original Richies that is so loved the cover fell off long ago and I have no idea which issue it is! It’s funny how the first few comics you read and re-read back in the day seem like THE classic Richie stories, although to others, they are brand new to them! This is a quintessential Richie story for me and Reggie’s spazzing out face is my favorite!

2015-08-13 13.17.58 2015-08-13 13.18.05 2015-08-13 13.18.12 2015-08-13 13.18.19 2015-08-13 13.18.34

Go Harkins! Way to save the day!

And now we go to yet another Richie/Reggie relation, popping up out of the woodwork, offering his fortune to one of the two boys. Why do these men never have anything else to do with their money?

A.) Why not have a kid at some point and give your fortune to your own kid?

B.) Why not give your fortune to charity? These kids need no extra money!

C.) Why not split the fortune in two? Why the competition?

D.) Why not travel the world and blow all the money you spent a lifetime accumulating? It’s your money!

This Uncle is definitely the warmest and cuddliest out of the Uncle stories, despite Reggie almost killing him with the arrow!

E-V-I-L-K-I-D indeed! And if you like this story, there’s plenty more where that came from!

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2014/11/21/richie-and-reggie-search-for-uncle-hyders-fortune-and-freckles-and-peewee-turn-down-the-chance-to-be-millionaires/

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2015/06/22/the-secret-of-wildmoor-castle/

What did you think? What are your favorite “classic Richie” stories?

Richie attends the Snob Hill school and gets pummeled by the local bully!

I love today’s stories as they show us a less affected Richie than in the later years. He’s still sweet and smart and helpful, but in a much more naive way. In this first story, he honestly doesn’t want to hurt Reggie’s feelings. WHAT????!!! Reggie has no feelings!!

IMG_0796 IMG_0797 IMG_0798 IMG_0799 IMG_0800

I like how there is always a little blonde girl in a red dress heading into any school you might be attending. 🙂

And I’m very impressed at the technical computer training Richie got at the public school. Or perhaps it was from the school before the public school as he appeared to just be transferring there. It’s interesting how one can just not show up to school and go to another school for the day and no one cares.

Richie Rich comics predict the future in so many stories, but here, with a virtual professor and a machine to record and take notes for you, they have done it again!

If you liked this story of a snobby school, don’t forget to read this one:

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2014/07/31/richie-rich-goes-to-private-school/

And now we have a fantastic story where Richie actually gets his butt kicked! I love him and don’t wish him harm, but it is very annoying that in every story he wins every prize, dodges every bullet, beats up entire gangs of adult crooks without batting an eyelash. I like seeing him being normal for once. Although his hoity-toity gym is far from normal!

IMG_0801 IMG_0802 IMG_0803 IMG_0804 IMG_0805

This gym must have been designed by Aunt Novoo Rich. And Richard gently toned it down.

And if you like Richie getting into fights with tough boys, you will want to read this:

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2014/07/03/richie-rich-is-a-tough-kid-from-the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks/

What did you think?

The Secret of Wildmoor Castle

Today we have another tale in the genre of “random relation of Regina Rich/Vanessa van Dough pops up out of nowhere and has Richie/Reggie compete for ownership of the castle/money/a secret”. I love this type of story because any time Richie explores a house, I am a happy gal!

I do find it strange that they never actually show Regina or Vanessa saying hi to these long lost relations. And surely as these families are so old, they must have many branches leading to more relatives than just Reggie/Richie to distribute their wealth too. Those kids are rich enough! But, I suppose the poorer relations might not understand the upkeep involved in mansion ownership. Enjoy!

IMG_1438 IMG_1439 IMG_1440 IMG_1441 IMG_1442 IMG_1443 IMG_1444 IMG_1445 IMG_1446 IMG_1447 IMG_1448 IMG_1449 IMG_1450 IMG_1451 IMG_1452

Richie and Cadbury are so jolly in the beginning, playing with whips and guns and bolos like it’s a water balloon fight. And it explains why Richie is so good at escaping bad guys.

Does anyone else find it creepy that one of REGINA’s ancestors in the portrait is a dead-ringer for her husband? Methinks there might have been some crossed DNA lines in Richie’s family tree.

And if you liked this story, here’s another one in the same genre you may have missed:

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2014/11/21/richie-and-reggie-search-for-uncle-hyders-fortune-and-freckles-and-peewee-turn-down-the-chance-to-be-millionaires/

Do you like this type of story? Any favorites?

Cadbury, the perfect butler, gets emotional?

Hurray! Larry T. is back with a guest blog! I was getting lonely here in Richieblogland, with only my own Richie thoughts. I love when we have a guest blogger and a story about my cartoon boyfriend, Cadbury, what could be better? And scroll to the end for a link to another Richie story on another great blog! Without further ado…

Cadbury Gets Emotional

I know Cadbury is a personal favourite of the blog author, so I thought I’d scan a few stories from my Little Dot comic books. He really is an emotional sort!! Even though he is extremely dignified and has so much self-discipline that he can hide it in the presence of the Rich family.

But before we start the story, let’s take a look at Cadbury losing it. The first one-pager gives him a more human side… listening to Richie’s joke but containing his laughter until then next day.

Cadbury's Emotions PT 1

I love the great artwork here- the close-up of Cadbury’s face and the droll little smile… “haw”.

Next exhibit shows him a little more cross… at Richie, nonetheless!!! I guess he really does have quite the temper. Fortunately he was out of view of the Riches, this outburst may have had him fired!

Cadbury's Emotions PT 2

The tongue sticking out is a nice detail, LOL, I bet he dropped some pretty harsh f-bombs that day!!! I’ve never seen him like this! I love it! He is human after all!

And now the best of the test of the best. Mean cousin Reggie visits and makes a bet that he can get Cadbury to lose his cool.

I always wondered why Richie is so confident that Cadbury will not display anger, has he deliberately tried to provoke the guy in the past himself? One of the best parts of the story is the actual dare- I don’t believe Reggie lives that close to Richie so pushing a peanut home with his nose would take a lot longer than a day LOL!!!

Cadbury smiles all the way, no matter what tricks Reggie pulls on him. Hopefully he wasn’t on his way to one of Mrs. Rich’s afternoon tea parties with that jug of water, they would have wondered why his pants were wet. Come to think of it, I also wondered how often the maids empty the vacuum cleaner bags- the one Reggie dumps must have been in use for a few months!!!

The last panel is the payoff… it’s worth it to see Cadbury actually really pissed off!!!

This is why I love Richie Rich so much, you never know how the story is going to end. Sometimes it’s fairly punny with some chuckling, sometimes there are beatniks living in the house, but a Cadbury mask, who was expecting that? I love it! Perhaps it inspired this story:
