What time is it? TIMMY Time!

Today’s post goes out to Adam who has been desperately seeking the story of Timmy Time as it takes place in 2019 and he wondered how Harvey made this far off future look. Timmy Time was a one issue comic that did not get enough love to keep being published. For more information, check out this link:

https://richie-rich.fandom.com/wiki/Richie_Rich_and_Timmy_Time

I do not have the actual issue, but luckily I do have this digest it was reprinted in.

Here is the official breakdown of the standalone Timmy Time.

https://www.comics.org/issue/264450/

So without further ado, enjoy some stop! Timmy Time….(insert Timmy Time wearing MC Hammer pants here)

Traveler telling Gloria she is not wearing any clothes! Hee hee! And how did he know what clothes they wear every day? I would have liked to see some cool white spacesuits on them. I am also loving the sound effects “BoomVamVoom”, “Wangnangdang”, and “Pok”!

Why do you think the audience didn’t support Timmy Time enough? My two cents are, he’s just Richie Rich in a different form, rich Dad with a bunch of scientists who are fairly inept, Richie/Timmy knows more than every adult and has to take matters into his own hands regardless of his safety, etc. We already have this character in Richie, it wasn’t necessary to replicate him as a white haired/non-thunder thighed clone. Plus, a robot sidekick doesn’t warm the heart like a Dollar Dog or freckled bestie.

Timmy Time was not exactly my cup of tea, but if you liked it, you may like these stories:

Enjoy!

Richie gets kidnapped (again), Reggie overlords at the Club, and bank deposit bag shenanigans for all!

Happy Thanksgiving! There were so many things I read about in Richie comics growing up that made me excited for adulthood so these things could be mine. One was the anti-collision stabilizer:

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2013/08/27/one-of-my-favorite-richie-stories/

And the other was my very own bank deposit bag. Even though I never saw my parents heading to the bank with their bank deposit bags, I completely believed this was a real thing adults possessed. I’m disappointed I never got my own hot pink bag, but I suppose it’s good we don’t all walk around with them as it’s very easy to be robbed! Enjoy!

Richie, you don’t pull out your money in front of others! Did your parents teach you nothing? I am still surprised that bank deposit bag stores don’t really exist! And if you like that bank deposit bag story, (I love saying bank deposit bag), here’s another!

Well, that was just cute, good old fashioned fun until someone pulls a gun. I wonder why butterflies are just fluttering around Richie in the first panel? Or perhaps they are moths that ate away at his bank deposit bag, necessitating a new bag in the first story. The mind wonders…

One of my most often used phrases on here is “WHERE ARE THE ESTATE GUARDS???” and now I know why I say that after re-reading this terrifying story I read 80 times as a kid. Because in this story, they are everywhere and that concept must have solidified itself in my brain forever. This story scared the bejeebers out of me….

Can you imagine your sweet Mom calls you and then she transforms into a giant, scary man who is kidnapping you??? This story was frightening! And the angles and shadows were drawn so well, especially when the Riches are on the phone! Watching your child disappear in front of your eyes would be a nightmare!!!

It also unnerves me when the chummier, more bumbling crook that you think is not much of threat tries to murder Richie. “I’ll shoot ’em”. They are CHILDREN, Scrudd!!! Thank goodness the main crook doesn’t believe in male jewelry or Richie would be toast. Reminds me of this story where the “super fun” camp counselor is trying to murder Richie with arrows.

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2014/06/04/the-magical-70s-when-an-american-airlines-plane-ridea-free-richie-rich-comic/

And the scene where the estate guards are firing on the truck I have never understood. They are looking forward, but holding the gun sideways. What??

Why “old bills”? No serial numbers perhaps?

If Richie had less playhouses lying about gathering dust, there would be less hiding places for all these bad guys.

I would feel bad leaving you unsettled from that scary story, so here is Reggie being his usual annoying putz self in a very fun story!

Good heavens, the pool was just cleaned! We can’t have this lot germing it up with their poverty! Oh shuddup Reggie! Happy Holidays!

Gloria is rich and Richie is poor? Plus G & R have a ball at the mall!

Dollar Days are over this week, now it’s Gratuitous Gobs of Gloria! This first story is perfection, I love seeing the Richie/Gloria wealth disparity flipped on its head. Thank you Hugh for asking for this story and Jonathan for finding it!

fullsizeoutput_268ffullsizeoutput_2690fullsizeoutput_2691fullsizeoutput_2692fullsizeoutput_2693

Well, that was quite mind-blowing was it not? Even underprivileged Richie still wears a tuxedo! Albeit a very shabby one. And strangely his normally all white shoes have blue bottoms in this story, whether he is rich or poor.

Gloria’s closet reminds me of Hannah Montana’s Closet:

https://ifunny.co/video/remember-when-miley-showed-lily-the-hannah-montana-closet-mtnFZJQc5

And I guarantee 2020 Billionaire Gloria would have her own Cher Horowitz fashion computer/app!

If you like Billionaire Gloria, bragging about wealth, and ridiculously large swimming pools, check out this story:

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2014/08/18/mrs-rich-tries-not-to-show-off-her-wealth-what-in-the-world/

And now we go with Richie and Gloria to where one purchased clothes in the days before online shopping. I absolutely love this story because it’s basically a “Richie exploring the house” story in a mall. Enjoy!

fullsizeoutput_2694fullsizeoutput_2695fullsizeoutput_2697fullsizeoutput_2698fullsizeoutput_2699fullsizeoutput_269cfullsizeoutput_269dfullsizeoutput_269efullsizeoutput_269ffullsizeoutput_26a0

Interesting how for a brief moment before they board the “Gold Mine Escalator” Gloria appears to have coal from a coal mine all over her face. In real life I imagine the gold mine would be mass quantities of people fighting each other like a Black Friday at Walmart.

I don’t quite understand the physics of the 2nd floor coming to you. How does the entire building shift up, down and around. Unless where the lady is standing is a giant open elevator that moves so she is actually going to the 2nd floor, but without the claustrophobic feel.

That kid play mall seems to be a horribly dangerous facility like Action Park:

But, it seems much more fun than the children’s play place at Ikea!

If you liked that story, you’ll love this one:

If you like stories where wacky things you don’t expect keep happening, check this one out:

And if you like Richie exploring interesting rooms, check out all the Richie exploring the mansion links on this bottom of the below post:

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2017/08/09/take-a-visit-to-the-1930s-car-show-in-the-rich-mansion/

Lastly we have an odd Gloria story, usually Gloria just wants to be outdoors and away from all the wealth, but today we see she is trying to art direct Mother Nature! That won’t go well!

fullsizeoutput_26a1fullsizeoutput_26a5fullsizeoutput_26a6fullsizeoutput_26a7fullsizeoutput_26a8I guess Richie will really “move mountains” for Gloria! Hopefully she learned her lesson about messing with our lovely planet. If you liked changing nature stories, check out this one:

Have a great day!

Exciting Harvey news and guest blogger tells of Richie facing the Manta Menace!

VERY VERY EXCITING NEWS in Harveyland! Casper and Hot Stuff and even dear Richie are coming back! Two different publishers are involved, one will do reprints of old material (at this time, not Richie, sob!), and one will be new material drawn in new designs.

See below from Harvey Historian Mark Arnold:

NEW HARVEY COMICS UPDATE:

  •  Joe Books AND American Mythology are BOTH allowed to publish Harvey Comics. Here’s how it breaks down as I now understand it:
  • The American Mythology agreement is for Casper and his associated characters (Wendy, Hot Stuff, Spooky, Nightmare, Ghostly Trio, etc.) They are allowed to reprint old Harvey comic book material and are trying to keep everything similar in spirit and design to the old Harvey Comics and is based upon the comic book Casper.
  • Joe Books’ agreement allows them access to all of the Harvey characters, but they have to be done in new designs and not the classic Harvey designs. They can do all of the Harvey characters, but apparently the Casper-related characters are based upon the animated versions and not the comic book versions.
  • To clarify also because people always ask. Universal Studios now owns Classic Media which owns the Harvey characters like Casper and Richie Rich.
  • The Harvey family STILL owns the rights to Sad Sack and The Black Cat. They can license all characters out together or separately, so the way that they did it can make it so two publishers can and are publishing the Harvey characters at exactly the same time.

Dan Parent (of Archie fame) posted what his version of the Harvey characters will be, I am really excited about these! So cute!

HOORAY! 2017 may be another 2012 with Richie and Harvey everywhere! So exciting!!!

And now, drum roll please….a guest blog! Hurrah! I don’t have to listen to myself! Thank you Ze-Mastor for sending us one of his favorite stories from Success Stories #23. Enjoy!

img_2417img_2418img_2419img_2420img_2421img_2422img_2423img_2424img_2425img_2426img_2427img_2428img_2429img_2430img_2431

Commentary by Ze-Mastor:

Pg 1: Yay! This is looking like a new Richie Rich adventure! Check out your new crew, Richie. And make sure your Dad has a copy of the crew manifest. Who knows what will happen?
Pg 2: The Riches advertise for crewmen in the classified ads in a newspaper? And… don’t they already have a Captain? The guy in the black jacket on page 1?
Pg 3: Uh oh! Richie, you know that Manta is bad news, just based on how he hisses!
Pg 5: Let’s advertise to any passing ships that we’re pirates. We’ll lose the element of surprise, but that doesn’t matter.
Pg7: Yarrr! We don’t know what that other ship is carrying, but we’re pirates! Let’s ignore the idea of holding Richie Rich for ransom and make our money by petty larceny.
Pg10: Those are some suction cups! Not only do they support the weight of two people, they can stick and unstick at will! Now, why haven’t we invented anything like this that really works, 45+ years later? Look at all that cargo! Nevermind how long it may take to fence it all off. There’s gotta be a market for fake electronics and toys made in China painted with lead-based paint, right? And wait! See that sailor with a pistol in his belt? Take some names, Richie!
Pg12: Very clever, Richie! Let’s see how Manta takes it.
Pg13: Owwwww! Froggy, ol’ boy, Manta is sure a hard boss to work for, eh? And look, another sailor on guard with a rifle. Where did these extra goon squad guys come from? Hold that thought! Richie is bringing some canned spinach, so he can Popeye his way out of this? Let’s see!
Pg14: Help is coming, but wow, Manta finally has the clue that he can leverage the kids as hostages and get away with all of that piracy!
Pg 15: The good guys won! How did you find out about us? Well, since you raided several ships and didn’t sink them, they simply radioed us and sailed back to port and reported it. And, since you have a pirate flag flying, and we all know what happened on the Oceanic… oops, scratch that… it’s all because heroic Richie Rich painted that message on the side of the ship. Oh, and by the way, Richie said to get the crew manifest and arrest EVERY ONE of those blighters. They were the HIRED crew of Richie’s father to sail his yacht. They SAW Manta and his 2 thugs take over, and engage in acts of piracy and kidnapping, and they went along with it and JOINED IN! They aided and abetted Manta by navigating for him, going on guard duty for him, had access to firearms and used them in his service, against all maritime law and against the wishes of the ship’s owner and his family. Is there a problem with that? Aye! ARREST THEM ALL!

Thank you so much for guest blogging! I love reading other people’s thoughts! And I’m so happy you posted this because Richie using the suction cups has been in my head for years and I didn’t remember why. This is not the type of story I would have been into in the olden days (too boy for me), but because it had Gloria, I do remember reading it!

And the Manta saying, “Shut up, stupid kid!” to THE Richie Rich makes me chuckle.

Have a great day and be so excited we will soon have some non-browning and crumbling Harveys to read!

Richie helps Mr. Glad and Reggie helps himself to some thorns

We’re going back in the Wayback Machine to some early Richie from the Richie Rich Relics comics. I love how cute they are drawn in the early days and I’m so grateful for these newer versions because my early Richies are brown and crumbling.

This first story is yet another one where in today’s world Richie would be considered a Gloria stalker, but back then we just thought it was cute. Although I can’t imagine Harveyville is very far from Richdale, surely it’s just a yacht length away!

(*If you don’t get that hilarious reference, you will further down the page!)

img_2407img_2408img_2409img_2410img_2411

Oh the olden days, when we didn’t know what hot dogs were made of!

And if you like tales of Richie trying to control Gloria’s life, you will like the second story here:

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2016/02/14/happy-valentines-from-richie-and-gloria/

And now for the yacht reference, I can’t find my color version of this so I apologize for the black and white.

FullSizeRender.jpg

Waahaa! Now you get the hilarity!

And now to a one-pager, I love when Richie is dressed in his “poor” clothes. All those destitute kids wandering around in the 50’s with striped shirts instead of tuxedos, it was easy to spot the lower class indeed.IMG_2412.jpg

Did you see their names in the window? Hee hee! Richie should have brought his denim and rhinestone checkbook case to go with his attire.

And if you like stories of Richie in non-fancy clothes, see here:

https://wordpress.com/post/richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/1026

And now to something I really enjoy, when Richie gets to stick it to Reggie. IMG_2413.jpg

And there’s more where that came from, here’s a great story where we can sneer away at dumb ‘ol Reggie. As Freckles would say, “WHEEEEE!”

img_2401img_2402img_2404img_2405img_2406

Reggie made an incredibly well planned fake treasure map. He missed his calling as a cartographer. I like when Richie doesn’t try to be nice and include Reggie despite his jerkness. He just says “So long sucker!”

If you like stories of Reggie getting trounced, see here:

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2014/12/15/its-time-for-a-richiereggie-snowball-fight/

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2014/01/04/surprise-surprise-reggie-van-dough-acts-like-a-putz/

And if that’s not enough, just search Reggie in the search box by the magnifying glass at the top of this page for more stories. Have a great weekend!

Money, money, everywhere, but not a drop to drink…

I wonder why crooks are always sneaking in through the windows at the mansion? All they really need to do is sit around for two minutes anywhere near the estate and money will come flying through the air at them! Or scratch a stick at some grass and a vault will pop up and spew cash and coins!

But, while crooks like all this cash, dear Gloria is not down with all the miscellaneous money hither and thither on the estate. And try as he might, Richie cannot hide the dollars hanging around underfoot in today’s top story….

IMG_0526IMG_0527IMG_0528IMG_0529IMG_0530

Hee hee, what a cute story! One thing that you may have noticed as well is that Richie is sporting the white underwear/diaper look quite a lot in the stories today. Perhaps he is trying to bond with Gloria in the panty showing stakes!

And now to a cute one-pager, I would love to be Richie’s maid!

2016-05-08 20.33.26

And more vulgar displays of wealth! Did we accidently wander into Aunt Novoo Rich’s house?

IMG_0549IMG_0550

So strange to see Richie being spanked! That never happens!

And now, one last story of Richie accidently showing off his wealth and very pasty legs; which is also the very sad story of security guards with horribly boring jobs.

2016-05-08 20.39.042016-05-08 20.39.082016-05-08 20.37.542016-05-08 20.39.222016-05-08 20.39.26

My, what a fun job. Standing in a closed room on the off-chance one of three people might want to enter and look at some art for five seconds once every six years. Yiish! And the gunman must have been so excited to point his gun at someone! He probably is only guarding the diamond from birds and squirrels on most days. Not my cup of tea on the job front.

Maybe those are the jobs that Mr. Rich gives to the criminals whom he promises jobs to when they get out of jail. If they can stop themselves from stealing, they are proven to be rehabilitated and can go on to business or scientist jobs in Rich Industries.

Do you like Richie showing off his wealth stories? Why do you think no one ever seems to notice that Richie’s shorts or legs aren’t colored in before these were published? And if you like weird colorization in Richie stories, check this out:

Political coups out the wazoos plus Richie wins everything!

Happy Opening Day! If you’ve never read the famous Richie history of baseball story, perhaps today is the day! Head on over to Occupy Richie Rich and enjoy yourself!

In non-baseball news, this first story seems a bit risqué, but was quite interesting and a bit different than the usual Richie fare. Except for Richie being kidnapped, that happens every week!

IMG_1132IMG_1133IMG_1134IMG_1135IMG_1136

I wonder if Richie enjoyed being around others who walk around in tuxedos all day? He was dressed like everyone else for once! And if you like stories where Richie pays off people who are trying to ransom him, check this one out: https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2014/06/13/richie-gets-the-mobsters-back-together-at-the-old-folks-home/

Now to a very stereotypical Richie classic where Richie does what a Rich does best!

Oh, how the townspeople must hate this family!

Whitey Bloop! That is going in my favorite names pile with Snerdly Gerp.

Happy Valentine’s from Richie and Gloria

Happy Valentine’s everyone! I loved how pretty the digitized Gems looked last week and handily enough, I had the Valentine’s Gems that Weldon spoke of in the previous blog:

https://richierichcomicsfanclub.wordpress.com/2016/01/26/richie-rich-and-his-gold-iphone-and-interview-with-weldon-adams/

So, our first story is a new(ish) story from Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colón!

2016-02-14 11.17.152016-02-14 11.17.222016-02-14 11.17.252016-02-14 11.17.302016-02-14 11.17.34

Not getting the romance in seeing a hairy dude dressed up in your clothes singing. And was it also a friendly Valentine for Freckles and Peewee? Why were they at her house?

It seems like Reggie was going for the long game to finally get Gloria by NEXT Valentine’s Day. Sheesh, a year of sabotage and courtship!

And now some re-colored old favorites:

2016-02-14 11.18.312016-02-14 11.17.06

And now we go back to ye olden days with a lot of modern technology. This story is sweet as they are young kids, but if Richie and Gloria were just a few years older, Richie would be considered a stalker and would have a restraining order on him.  Enjoy!

2016-02-12 16.08.582016-02-12 16.09.01 2016-02-12 16.09.10 2016-02-12 16.09.17 2016-02-12 16.09.22

Yiish, Mr. Glad! You better put your daughter in the nunnery ASAP!

Happy Valentine’s!

Richie Rich and his gold iphone and interview with Weldon Adams

Many of you were interested in seeing the story of Richie and Reggie and their iphones from the 2012 Richie reboot, so I present it below with some other old and re-colored stories from the Winter Special Gems. But, I also wanted to know more about how the reboot came to be and how Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colón became a part of it. Luckily, I know Weldon Adams who was the editor of the new Gems and he gave me a lovely interview you can read to answer your burning questions after the story!

INTERVIEW WITH WELDON ADAMS

How did you get involved in the Richie reboot?

I was an old friend of one of the Ape Entertainment publishers, Brent Erwin. The Richie Rich reboot was essentially all his idea. He designed all the new looks and the new direction for the series. There was a different editor on the “All-New, All-Different” Richie Rich book.
I was brought in to edit several other titles, which included the then-unnamed companion Richie Rich reprint title. I suggested picking up the numbering of one of the old titles. I also suggested we get one as near a landmark issue # as we could, so we could celebrate it. We decided Richie Rich Gems was perfect. We picked up the numbering at #44, making issue #50 just a few away. And ‘Gems’ was a good title for a -mostly- reprint book.
Here’s the part I loved the MOST… It wasn’t -all- reprints. Each issue had an all-new ‘classic-style’ Richie story in it created by Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colón! Being able to hire those guys to create all new Richie stories was just the greatest! And they were as excited to be working on Richie stories again as I was to be working with them! I am very, very proud of those stories. It’s like they never left the title.
The publishers, Brent Erwin and David Hedgecock, had worked out an idea to theme my issues to match what was supposed to be happening in the ‘new-style’ Richie book that same month. So I had to lead with a super-hero theme in my first issue. That, of course, meant Super Richie… aka Rippy & Crashman!
Where did you find the artwork and stories to digitize? Is there still a giant Harvey warehouse somewhere?
As for where I was pulling these reprints from, Ape Entertainment had a deal with the license holder that gave us access to their library of vintage stats of the original art for thousands of stories. To pare it down a bit, we had them send us the stats for every issue of Super Richie and Richie Rich Success Stories that they had. As Harvey Comics reprinted the stories so much, that actually gave us access to stories that originally ran in many, many other titles.
The stats were not always the sharpest quality, being created decades ago with what is now very outdated technology. So we had them scanned to digital files and then had someone professionally clean up the line art in PhotoShop. This allowed us to represent the art more like it was intended to look, instead of looking like a bad photocopy of a bad photocopy.
The wealth of issues we had to pull from allowed me the freedom to pick stuff that fit the themes I needed.  Namely, super-heroes, haunted castles, pirates, and robots & aliens.
What was it like working with Sid and Ernie?
Sid Jacobson had already been asked to produce a new Super Richie story, which Ernie Colón would draw. This turned out to be Rippy & Crashman in their original costumes, which was a nice bit of fun. Then I began working with Sid on story ideas to fit the next issues.
I hired a very talented artist, James Nelms, to digitally recolor some covers, and I reworked the text on them to reflect the new content. Most of the rest of the new color work was done by Dustin Evans.
So I was simultaneously culling old issues to mine for stories to reprint, getting them cleaned up, getting them colored, getting old covers recolored, working with Sid on new scripts, and working with Ernie on getting the art finished on the new story.
Mostly, things went very smoothly with everyone. I would offer a tweak, such as asking that we call Richie’s phone his MyPhone, and his tablet his MyPad. And asking that they be gold or silver. Richie always had great technology available to him, so it was important to me that we continue that.
There were only two snags we ran into… The all-new book fell terribly behind. So the whole matching-theme thing went out the window on the first issue. And I had to ask for some significant art revisions on the alien-theme new story in issue #47. I was nervous about asking a man, whose work I grew up reading (both his Harvey and later DC comics), to redraw portions of the story. But Mr. Colón is a true professional and a gracious man. He did so quickly and efficiently. We were able to move panels around so he really only had to redraw a few panels in all. And that is probably the story I am the most proud of now.
Were the new comics successful?
We got up to issue #48 before low sales made it impossible to continue. I really wanted to hit issue #50… That was my original plan, remember. I had the cover from Richie Rich Diamonds #50 picked out to refurbish as our new Gems #50 cover.
We did get to do a couple of specials… A Winter Special (snow themed stories), and a Valentine’s Day Special.  Both were tons of fun to produce. Working with Sid Jacobson (writer), Ernie Colón (artist), James Nelms (cover colorist), Dustin Evans (digital colorist), and Deron Bennet (letterer) was just great!
My time with Ape Entertainment was very rewarding. Working with comic book legends on Richie Rich, and editing other great titles like Strawberry Shortcake, DreamWorks Adventure Magazine, Pocket God, and Temple Run, was very special. I had fun, learned a lot, and I think we turned out some great comics.
Thank you Weldon!

Happy New Year and Richie enters a very strange dream machine with Casper

Well. Indeed. What to say about this story, I have no idea. It was interesting, I’ll give it that! And I like supermodel Regina’s look, but do not like stupid Mayda slapping my Cadbury.

And mean Mr. Rich, he always scares me, even as an adult. YIIISH!

And here is the sun that our dear fan club member Steve remembered from the olden days. It is quite beautiful!

It’s funny; the tiny, artistic details we remember from these Richie stories that we first read so long ago. Like Stevie Strange’s whiskers that stayed with me for most of my life!

All in all, I am quite happy no one has invented a machine like this because your dreams should be just for you! Were anyone else to see them, they would think you were a psychopath! What did you think of this acid trip story?
